Walter S. Cox, Jr., 77, of Carrollton, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at North Kansas City Hospital.
He was born Dec. 24, 1930 in Clearmont, the son of Walter S., Sr. and Beverley (Dowling) Cox. He graduated from William Jewell College and Midwestern Baptist Seminary. On Oct. 23, 1954 he married Norma Rae Salmons in Independence; she survives of the home.
Walter was a minister for 53 years. He served at the Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe; Winigan Missouri Baptist Church, Santa Fe Trail Baptist Church in Boonville, Hardin First Baptist Church, Wheeling Baptist Church, Hopkins Baptist Church, Bosworth Baptist Church, Miami Baptist Church, and retired after fifteen years with the Carrollton First Baptist Church where he was also a member. Since his retirement he had served for several churches as an interim and supply minister. Walter had previously served as an Executive Board Member of the Missouri Baptist Convention.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Reverend Chris M. Cox and his wife Tammy, of Hardin; two grandchildren, David Cox, of Hardin, and Brooke (Cox) Horton and her husband, Trent, of Richmond.
His parents and one granddaughter, Courtney Michelle Cox, preceded him in death.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Missouri Baptist Home in Chillicothe, or the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in Peculiar. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., Saturday, March 1 at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jeff Maxwell and Reverend Chris Cox officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton.
