Gerald Justin Smalley, Sr., 85, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Liberty Hospital.
Gerald was born Nov. 24, 1922 in Williston, N.D., the son of Laban Guy and Rowena Mae (McGlothlin) Smalley. He was a 1941 graduate of William Christman H.S. in Independence. He served in the U.S. Army during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. On March 22, 1946, he married Dorothy L. “Tobie.”
Survivors include: his wife Tobie, of the home; one daughter, Sandra Williams, of Excelsior Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald “Bub” Smalley Jr., and his wife, LaDonna, of Cole Camp, and Rob Smalley and his wife, Lisa, of Lawson; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, three brothers and three sisters, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be given to the Old Union Christian Union Church or to Liberty Hospital Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Old Union Christian Church in Lawson. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Old Union Cemetery in Lawson.
