James Dwight (Whitey) Peters, 71, of Richmond, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at his home.
James was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Rachel, W.V., the son of Snyder and Ruth (Miller) Peters. He married Donna Milton of Independence; she preceded him in death on April 3, 2005.
Survivors include: eight sons and three daughters-in-law, James, Jr., David, Lonnie and Shane Peters, all of Ariz., Randy W. Milton and his wife, Renan, of Richmond, Robert D. Milton and his wife, Jeann, Richard G. Milton, and Rusty L. Milton and his wife, Susan, all of Independence; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda K. Prince and her husband, Ron, of Independence and Tracy L. Milton of Richmond; one brother and sister-in-law, Dwain Peters and his wife, Lois, of Glendale, Ariz.; three sisters, Patricia Morgan of Hawaii, Eleanor Dewitt of Springfield and Sammy Bernier of Mich.; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, one daughter, Elizabeth Peters and one sister, Mary Bourne, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The American Legion Post #237 and the Richmond VFW Post #4398, will conduct Military graveside honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
