Michael Joe Coats, 53, of Norborne, died at 9:11 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Mike was born Dec. 10, 1954 in Excelsior Springs, the son of Donald and Mary June (Wollard) Coats. He married Carol S. Brookshier of Ludlow, on Nov. 12, 1988; she survives of the home.
Mike had owned and operated Coats Construction Company for the past 13 years. He had lived in the Stet area most of his life and was a member of the Millville United Methodist Church.
Additional survivors include: two sons, J. B. Coats of Norborne and Jacob Coats of Smithville; seven daughters and two sons-in-law, Brandy Carpenter and her husband, Matt, of Kansas City, Mo., Brandy Brookshier of Austin, Texas, Coley Gibson and her husband, Craig, of Norborne, Leisha Coats, Laney Coats, Haley Coats, and Michaela Coats, all of the home; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dave Coats of Eureka Springs, Ark., Jonny Coats and his wife, Joyce, of Norborne, and Jim Coats and his wife, Carla, of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna June Bathgate and her husband, Bill, of Richmond; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Coats of Millville; and six grandchildren.
His parents, one brother, Billy Don Coats, and one sister, Mary Lou Coats, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Coats Girl’s Education Fund.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be in the New Hope Cemetery, north of Hardin.
