Bertha F. O’Dell, 94, of Richmond, died at 1:45 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mrs. O’Dell was born Jan. 7, 1914 in Ray County, the daughter of Henry Olan and Rosetta (Simmons) Hess. She married Gordon O’Dell of Ray County, on Feb. 28, 1936, he preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2003.
Mrs. O’Dell lived in the Hardin area most of her life. She was a member of the North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church in Wood Heights. She was a charter member of the Chase Homemaker’s Club.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Don O’Dell and his wife, Darlene, of Richmond; one daughter, Frances Gill, of Richmond; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty Stoffel and her husband, Sydney, of Fallbrook, Calif.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Patty Lam and her husband, Randy, Kenneth O’Dell and his wife, Ann, Marsha Tyrrell and her husband, David, and Karen Stewart and her husband, Robert; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, three brothers, Albert Hess, Clarence Hess and Junior Hess, two sisters, Ruby McMullen and Ora O’Dell, and one son-in-law, Marvin Gill, preceded her in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 11, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. at the North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church in Wood Heights. Burial will be at North New Garden Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Wood Heights.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
