William Edward “Ed” Riddle, 72, of Richmond, died at 12:56 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Ed was born Oct. 31, 1935 in Marceline, the son of Everett Ray and Nettie Mae (Smoot) Riddle. He married Helga B. Wrobel of Germany on Oct. 20, 1956; she survives of the home.
Ed retired after 22 years from the U.S. Army as E8 Master Sergeant in 1975. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
He lived in Fleming, Mo. before moving to Richmond in 2007. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward A. Riddle and his wife, Jackie, of Orrick, and John Riddle and his wife, Marilyn, of Orrick; one daughter, Susan B. Carter of Carrollton; one son-in-law, Jerry Jones, of Lakewood, Calif.; one brother, Ron Riddle, of Paul Husky, Okla.; one half-sister and brother-in-law, Anita Schreiner and her husband, David, of Gladstone; nine grandchildren, Casey Gaines, Katy Greer and her husband, Jeremy, Kelly Riddle, Chris Jones, Sheena Jones, Angela Carter, Derek Carter, Hannah Riddle and Zachary Riddle; five great-grandchildren, Conner Greer, Ross Greer, Tucker Greer, April Flint and Gwenie Jones.
In addition to his parents, one daughter, Helene M. Jones; three brothers, Richard Riddle, Junior Riddle and Donnie Riddle; one sister, Susan Riddle, who died in infancy; and one grandson, Peyton Carter, preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Helene M. Jones Riddle Scholarship Fund c/o the Bank of Orrick.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with Military Graveside Services will be held at 3 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
