David George Hein, 57, of Kansas City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at North Kansas City Hospital.
David was born Nov. 17, 1950, in Albany, N.Y., the son of George Harold and Beverly June (Theford) Hein. He married Walla Eileen Vassmer on Jan. 12, 1980 in Platte Woods.
David lived in many different locations growing up while his father was in the military. He was a 1968 graduate from Leavenworth High School. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Wichita State in Dec. 1978 and was the Salutatorian of his college graduating class. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. David was also a Veteran of the United States Army having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. For 10 years he worked as a delivery driver for Myers Dairy in Basehor, Kan. and had a delivery route in Missouri. He spent three years with Best Tool and Die in North Kansas City and also with Yellow Cab until 1991. He did volunteer work with Harvester’s, Inc. from 1991 to 2006 and in the last few months volunteered at the Don Bosco Senior Center.
Survivors include: his wife, Walla, of the home; one daughter, Katie Rivers, of Kansas City; his father, George Hein of Leavenworth, Kan.; two sisters, Eileen Parks of Leavenworth, Kan. and Heather Hein of Lawrence, Kan.; one brother Jonathon Hein of Lawrence, Kan.; three grandchildren, Shaylee Rivers, Lorissa Rivers and Janessa Rivers; and several nieces and nephews.
His mother preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Enon Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
