Helen Louise Lowrey, 79, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty.
She was born March 16, 1928 in Richmond, the daughter of Benny Joe and Opal May (Coleman) Love. On Nov. 6, 1948 in Forth Worth, Texas, she was united in marriage to James Lee Lowrey, Sr.
Helen worked as a waitress in the restaurant of the old McCleary’s Clinic in Excelsior Springs for several years and also as a babysitter. She enjoyed country music shows, playing bingo, bowling and walking at Wal-Mart. She and her husband lived for many years in Wood Heights in the home where Jim was raised until they moved to Excelsior Springs. She attended Flack Memorial Christian Union Church.
Survivors include: her husband, James, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim Lowrey and his wife, Lila, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one grandson, Jason Lowrey of Denver, Colo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Sammy Love and his wife, Mary, of Excelsior Springs; two sisters, Donna Hawkins of Excelsior Springs, and Betty Garland of Liberty; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Her parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday Sept. 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Reverend Randy Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
