Robert Eugene “Gene” Kennedy, 73, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Thursday Sept. 13, 2007 at Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Born May 23, 1934 in Greeley County, Neb., he was the son of John Wesley and Edna Ruth (Dutcher) Kennedy. On Dec. 24, 1965 he married Peggy Ann Garnett in Moberly.
Gene had worked as a carpenter building homes and cabinets and various forms of woodworking during his career. He worked in the family construction business and later was employed by Trimco Cabinet Company in Liberty. He enjoyed woodworking, making stained glass, volunteered with the Red Cross and enjoyed teaching and working in the family hardwood floors business. He was a member of Crescent Lake Christian Center. Gene was a friend to all, and was always willing to help anyone at any time. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family & friends.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy, of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Roberta Kennedy-Cole and her husband, A.C. of Lexington, Missy Masters and her husband, Shawn of Cameron, Tina Overfelt and her husband, Randy of Excelsior Springs, and Sheila Kay Flores of Hastings, Neb.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John William Kennedy and his wife, Bridget of Warsaw, and Paul Wesley Kennedy and his wife, Monica of Ayr, Neb, ; four brothers, James Kennedy of Syracuse, Kan., David Kennedy of Cassville, Richard Kennedy, and Jack Kennedy, both of Moberly; three sisters, Sandra McDonald of Joplin, Rebecca Terriquez and Mary Belle Brown, both of Garden City, Kan.; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as his extended family.
His parents, three brothers, Frank Neil Kennedy, Theodore Ray Kennedy and Arthur Leroy Kennedy, an uncle, Ed Dutcher, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Gene Kennedy Memorial Fund in care of Polley Funeral Home, 5951 E. Hwy 10, Excelsior Springs, Mo. 64024.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m at Crescent Lake Christian Center in Excelsior Springs. A memorial service will be held Monday evening Sept. 17, 2007 immediately after the visitation, at 7 p.m. at the Christian Center.
