Robert Raymond “Bob” Wilhelmi, 84, of Excelsior Springs, passed away Friday Sept. 14, 2007 at Valley Manor and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs.
Robert was born Jan. 7, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Clarence William and Marie (Morrisey) Wilhelmi. Bob had six siblings, Clarence, Jr., Rose Mary, Mary Ellen, Winifred, Gerald and Bernard.
Bob was reared in Joliet, Ill. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 as a gunners mate. Following his military service he lived in Iowa for a brief time before moving to Missouri. He had been employed as a driver for the state, county and city highway departments. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion of Excelsior Springs.
Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Jon Wilhelmi and his wife, Joan of Maynard, Iowa, Rick Wilhelmi and his wife, Tamie and Tim Wilhelmi and his wife, Renita, of Excelsior Springs; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ruth Swafford, and Susan Olsson and her husband, Robert, of Excelsior Springs; one brother, Gerald Wilhelmi; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, five of his siblings and one granddaughter, Marcia Wilhelmi, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Funeral services were held Monday Sept. 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at 1 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
