Alice Elizabeth Calvert, 94, formerly of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Laurie Care Center.
She was born Sept. 1, 1912, in rural Carroll County, the daughter of Hershel L. and Iva Viola Brock Cowsert.
On March 31, 1934, she was united in marriage to Elwood L. Calvert; he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1977.
Alice was a member of the Richmond Methodist Church and a graduate of Stet High School. She lived most of her life in Richmond, where she worked many dedicated years as a school and nursing home cook. She moved to Laurie in Feb. 2000.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Carol Calvert of Laurie; one sister, Lee Lungren of Laurie; two grandchildren, Brent Calvert and wife, Susan and Denise Irwin and husband, Paul, all of Laurie; three great-grandchildren, Sarah Sweatt, Cole Calvert and Sydney Irwin, all of Laurie; one great-great grandchild, Jacob Sweatt of Laurie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at Richmond Memory Gardens with Rev. David Collum officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
