Helen Marie Allen, 89, of Excelsior Springs, and formerly of Richmond, died at 2:55 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center in Excelsior Springs.
Mrs. Allen was born Jan. 16, 1918 in Liberty, to Sterling Orbie and Bertha May (Stockham) Britton. She married John David Allen, Sr. of Richmond, on July 5, 1937; he preceded her in death on June 10, 1990.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, John David Allen, Jr. and Bonnie of Wood Heights; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jerrolyn and Raymond Parker of Excelsior Springs and Patty and Wayne Gardner of Windsor, MO; one sister, Evelyn Calhoun of Iola, Kan. 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Rehm; and one grandchild, Jamie Parle.
Mrs. Allen was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church and the Excelsior Springs First Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher at both churches.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.

Burial will be at South Point Cemetery in Orrick.
Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
