Ruth Jacobs, 88, of Richmond, died at 4:38 a.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Mrs. Jacobs was born on Feb. 25, 1919 in Ray County, to Parrott and Minnie (Keller) Green. She married Gordon B. Jacobs of Richmond, on Sept. 26, 1939; he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1979.
Mrs. Jacobs began her apprenticeship in 1937 in a beauty shop in Lexington. She was a beautician for about twenty years in shops in Richmond and Lexington. Ruth began making cakes for people in the 1950’s and eventually opened the “Cake House” on Sycamore Drive. She did baking and catering for years becoming known as “The Cake Lady.” She was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church and its Sunshine Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and also the Ray County Humane Society. She was a 1936 graduate of Richmond High School.
Survivors include: one son, James R. Jacobs of Blue Springs; and one granddaughter, Laura.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah E. Hutchings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
