Carrie Ellen Jones, 95, of Richmond, and formerly of Hale, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Carrie was born May 4, 1912 in Tina, the daughter of Fred and Ethel B. Miller Gobert. She attended school in Oakland, Ill. and Tina High School.
On June 7, 1930 she married Lewis W. Jones in Chillicothe; he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1968. Carrie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a collector for Hurricane Township for twenty years. She was a member of the Hale Baptist Church, Hurricane Hustlers, Delaney Homemakers, charter member of San Soucia Social Club; and a member of the Mendon Order of the Eastern Star for almost sixty years. She always had room in her heart to love more than her family; Kay Guilford, the Gault family, the Burgess family and Jerry Elliott were very special, and all the caregivers at Shirkeys.
Carrie is survived by: two daughters, Mary Ellen Walker and husband Gary, Norborne, Barb Finley and husband John, Norborne; a son-in-law, Billy G. DeWitt, Weatherford, Texas; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one daughter, Ruth DeWitt; one brother, Fred Riley; one sister, Viola Belle and one son-in-law, Billy Dale Hockemeier.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Hale Cemetery or H.E.L.P. Services Cancer Fund in memory of Mrs. Jones. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Hale Cemetery with Reverend Gail Brown officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.
