Virginia Ruth Staples, 93, of Gladstone, died at 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Woodbine Health Care Center in Gladstone.
Mrs. Staples was born on Aug. 23, 1913, in Ray County, to Claude and Florence (Coffman) McGuire. She married James Todd Staples of Hardin, on March 10, 1944; he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1981.
Mrs. Staples was a homemaker. She also worked for several different companies in Kansas City, before retiring from the W. T. Grant Department Store in 1975. She was a 1931 graduate of Central High School. She was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church in Kansas City.
Survivors include: one sister, Martha Lam of Kansas City, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: one son, David Oran Staples, who died in infancy; and two sisters, Margaret Underwood and Hazel White.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Englewood Baptist Church or to the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.

Burial will be in the Hardin Cemetery.
