Arnold W Burns, 96, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
He was born Sept. 16, 1910, in Ray County in the Cowgill area, the son of William T. Burns and Hattie E. (Richardson) Burns.
Arnold is the beloved husband of Evelyn G. Burns for 61 years, and the late Mildred I. Burns.
He is a gradate of Central Methodist College and Rev. Burns served the Methodist Church as Pastor and Minister for over 38 years. After retiring he served as the Minister of Visitation for the First United Methodist Church of Marshall for 15 years, from 1976 to 1991. Rev. and Mrs. Burns have enjoyed their retirement years at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond since 2002. The family thanks the staff at the Shirkey Center for their care. Rev. Arnold was a member of the First United Methodist Church Conference and after retirement was a member of the Richmond Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Evelyn; a son, Ralph A. Burns, Ballwin; a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Elaine and Stephen L. Frazier, Vallejo, Calif.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Burns, Maude Williams and Amanda Goll.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wood Chapel United Methodist Church in Odessa and/or Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon on Thursday, May 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Richmond.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., on Thursday, May 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Richmond, with Rev. Don Smith officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home in Odessa.
